Faculty Spotlight: Sandra Welshan

Each year, students spend roughly 1,000 hours in school. At CAK, we think it's important for you to know who is in the classroom teaching your children.

Today, we are shining our spotlight on Sandra Welshan, the sixth-grade science teacher in middle school! Mrs. Welshan has been at CAK for 17 years. We asked Sandra a few questions:
Why do you choose to work/teach at CAK?
I interned under Amy Hunt in the elementary and felt like CAK was a family. When I was asked to come teach, I was thrilled to be part of the family. When I moved to middle school, the feeling of being part of a family continued. My co-workers make coming to work each day easier.

Tell us about your family.
I have a very close family. My dad and mom raised us to follow Christ and do everything for Him. I have two sisters, two brothers-in-law, five nieces, and a nephew. Our favorite times are getting together for holidays, birthdays, or just any excuse. My baby is a spoiled rotten Yorkie named Tinker Belle.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at CAK?
I most enjoy the people at CAK. I have met some amazing people over the years that I have taught at CAK.

Why did you choose your specific area of study?
I love science because it talks about everything around us. There is nothing that does not include science in some way. I have challenged students for many years to find something that I can't show them the science within it. The only exception is God because He created everything. That is another reason I love teaching science. Since God created everything, he is in everything around us.

What do you like to do in your free time?
During my free time, you can most often find me reading, kayaking, golfing, working around the house, or hanging out with my family.
