Today, we are shining our spotlight on Carol Shipley, Pre-1st teacher! Mrs. Shipley has been at CAK for 28 years. We asked Carol a few questions:
Why do you choose to work/teach at CAK? My daughter had just begun attending CAK as a 4th grader and the Pre-1st position became available halfway through the year. I was planning to return to full-time teaching soon, but God opened the doors for me to jump in that year!
Tell us about your family. My husband, Alan, and I have been married for 44 years. He sold his marketing company, worked 4 years as a chaplain, and is now retired. My daughter, Hannah, lives and works in Nashville, and my son, Ben, is getting ready to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.
What do you enjoy most about teaching at CAK? My students! They are a never-ending source of joy to me!
Why did you choose your specific area of study? God has always directed me to work with 5-7 year olds. As I finished degrees in Speech Pathology and then Special education, my jobs were with this age group. Then the opening at CAK was for 5-6 year olds entering Pre-1st. As I often say, God made me for 6-year-olds!
What do you like to do in your free time? Getaways with close friends, reading, dinner out or in with friends, gardening, and long walks.
