CAK Senior Chosen as Knox County Junior Commissioner

Christa Margene
Ethan Coffey, CAK senior, was among 11 students chosen for the Knox County Junior Commission program. This is the first year for the Junior Commission program, which allows students to become more engaged and informed in local government.
A Knox County press release stated, “Junior Commission participants will learn the functions of their local government and further develop healthy citizenry habits, all while promoting the importance of community engagement and public service.”

Junior Commissioners were able to meet with their counterparts and attend a regular County Commission meeting. The Junior Commissioners will also attend Knox County Commission work sessions, regular meetings in February and March, a zoning hearing, and a mock Junior Commission meeting in March.

When asked about the program, Ethan said, “I had the opportunity to work with a local campaign this past summer which helped me to realize the importance of local politics. I feel that the Junior Commissioner program will further my knowledge and understanding of the local government process. I hope to use this information to help others to become more involved in our community and government. I appreciate being selected for this program.”

Way to go, Warrior!
