The primary goal of Kindergarten is to nurture children through their first year of school. This is an exciting year of academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development. Instruction is grounded in the fruits of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5:22-23. Teachers seek to instill these character traits in all children so that they can grow in their knowledge of who Christ is and how all are made in His image. As children practice these traits, they will be prepared to face the future that God has in store for them.
In Kindergarten, students are introduced to the main stories of the Old and New Testaments. While many of these stories are familiar to students, each week students learn how to apply the lessons learned to their daily lives. Students are also asked to memorize scripture that relates to the weekly story. What a wonderful gift it is to have the opportunity for students to store scripture in their hearts (Psalm 119:11)!
Kindergarten literacy focuses on the foundational skills needed to begin reading. Students often come to Kindergarten with various levels of literacy skills. The campus reading specialist meets with small groups of students to give targeted instruction and enrichment when needed. CAK is committed to considering the whole child and respects the role of development in learning. Students applying to Kindergarten complete the Gesell Developmental Observation to determine the best placement as we offer programs on both sides of Kindergarten to meet the diverse needs of our students.
The mission focus at this level is titled “Kindness from Kindergarten.” Our goal is for students to become aware of those around them while affording them with the opportunity to experience the gift of blessing those with whom we share our campus.
