First grade is an exciting year of growth academically, socially and spiritually. The goal of first grade is to not only strengthen the foundational reading, writing, and mathematical skills, but to foster a genuine love for learning. This is accomplished by focusing on building and encouraging an appetite for reading, sharing thoughts and ideas through writing, and emphasizing real-world connection and application with math.
All of these components are taught with intention while integrating a Biblical worldview across all disciplines. In first grade, teachers strive to support the whole child in a way that glorifies God and assists them in growing into the person God has fearfully and wonderfully made them to be (Psalm 139:14).
The Bible curriculum teaches that God’s Word is truth. Through Old and New Testament stories we learn how God loves the world and cares for each of his children. First graders learn that the Bible is the best source for guidance and direction in their lives.
The mission focus in first grade is on community helpers. Finding ways to express gratitude to those that do so much for us is at the heart of this work. First graders have enjoyed thanking sanitation workers, postal carriers, veterans, and firefighters. A birthday party for Jesus each Christmas and a collection of items for those in need is a highlight of the first-grade year.
