Faculty Spotlight: John Sessoms

We are sharing faculty spotlights each month throughout the year to help you get to know our dedicated teachers! Today, we are shining our spotlight on John Sessoms, the Digital Media teacher in both the high school and middle school! Mr. Sessoms also runs the Warrior Network. John has been at CAK for almost six years. We asked him a few questions:
Tell us about your family.
I have a beautiful wife named Kelly. She teaches STEM in the ES. My son Sawyer is 7, and my daughter Makena is 5. They're my absolute favorite.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at CAK?
The joy of teaching practical technological skills and life wisdom to students within a realm of mostly unrestricted creativity is so much fun to me. It's very gratifying to bring together a diverse group of young minds in one space and witness their transformation from initial uncertainty in working with cameras to collaboratively crafting really enjoyable content! This journey of growth is not only fulfilling but also incredibly exciting to be a part of. And yes, the added bonus of relishing good food from Sage certainly adds to the overall awesomeness of the experience!

Why did you choose your specific area of study?
I grew up making videos with my brother literally daily. It grew into such a huge passion of ours that we decided to pursue a film career. After attending film school, I traveled all over the country and some parts of the world internationally for work, and it was an amazing experience. I was then called to teach, and I taught film production in college for seven years. It was there that I felt I found my purpose.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending time with my family as much as possible. They're my everything, and every moment with them makes my life better. I also love playing me some video games! Gaming was a passion before film and teaching, and I plan on enjoying my free time deep in the gamingverse until the end of time.
