Every year, thousands of students ask themselves, “What do I want to
do after I graduate from high school?”

Will you continue your education beyond high school by attending a
two-year or four-year college, or vocational or technical school, or by
joining the armed forces? Or will you start your career by entering the
workforce? These are questions you will have to think about and plan
for well before you receive your high school diploma.

A high school diploma by itself is not sufficient preparation for many
occupations. But neither is a college degree. Different fields of work
require specific types of training. Just as there are occupations that
require college or advanced degrees, so too are there occupations
for which technical training, work experience, or training in a particular
skill is the most important entry requirement.

Employers always want to hire the best-qualified people available,
but this does not mean that they always choose those applicants
who have the most education. The type of education and training an
individual has had is as important as the amount. For this reason, a
vital part of the career planning process is deciding what types, as
well as how much, education and training to pursue.

Any search for the right college must begin with a close look at
yourself. Think about the following questions:

During your four years at Christian Academy of Knoxville's High
School, your guidance counselor will be by your side to help answer
these questions -- and ask the questions you may not have thought
of yet.
  • Have you been a good student? Above average? Below average?
  • What are your strongest subjects? Weakest?
  • Do you like a very competitive atmosphere or a more relaxed one?
  • Are you looking for an advanced education grounded in the Bible?
  • What extra-curricular activities are important to you?
  • Do you want to be near family and friends, or venture afar?
  • Is climate of concern to you? Do you want to stay in the South?
  • Do you want a small, mid-sized, or a large college?
