We had a FANTASTIC first week of school! I adore this little class...they are all precious and I feel so blessed to get to be their teacher this year and look forward to getting to know them all more. We worked on expectations and procedures A LOT this week and will continue to work on these things next week....this will ensure a successful year for us all. We will also begin to dig in to our curriculum. Please see below for additional information about what will be happening in our class this week.

Bible Verse: Each week we will have assigned a Bible verse on Thursday. It will be due the following Wednesday. Our first verse will not be tested until Wednesday 8/28.

Reading / Language Arts
Reading/Language Arts skills for the coming week:
Vocabulary: We will have vocabulary words that coincide with our Reading curriculum each week. Students will use the words on their weekly assessments. We will learn and review these words in class and it would be beneficial to review at home as well. We will not have a weekly assessment until 8/30. The vocabulary words are included in the quizlet below:
Winn Dixie Quizlet
Reading: Because of Winn Dixie-students will be learning how to use summarization in literature.
The students will complete a mini book report on their I Survived book, that they were to read this summer. We will do all the work for this project in class. If your student is new to our school, we will use a book they have read previously for their report.
Grammar: Four types of sentences- students will review this skill and be able to identify the four types of sentences.
Spelling: Our spelling tests will be in two Fridays. Our first test will be Friday 8/30. The list can be found in showbie under spelling.
Writing: Students will be summarizing their isurvived stories.
Focus: We will be beginning our journey in math with lesson 1. Our focus will be place value starting with the ten thousands and hundred thousands place. Students will become proficient in recognizing different ways to express numbers: standard, expanded, and written form.
Focus: Students will be completing activities this week that will focus on collaboration, the scientific method and the design process. We will be using gummy worms, oreos, puzzles and cups to learn about each of these skills. Students will explore the design process by building airplanes and boats.
Focus: Students will be engaging in activities to increase their knowledge of the United States regions, our continents, oceans and other countries around the world. We will have a review this week of the continents and oceans. Students will have a planning sheet to help them remember, and we will have a mini quiz on Friday 8/23.
