Class News

What a FANTASTIC first week of Third Grade! It has truly been so much fun getting to know each of your kiddos this past week! We are going to have a great year!

Here are a couple things to keep in mind for this week:

  • Warrior Wednesday's start THIS WEDNESDAY, August 21st.
  • Curriculum Night is THURSDAY, August 22 from 6:30-8:00. There will be two sessions of each class presentation in case you have students in multiple grade levels.
  • Tests this week: Spelling and Bible Verse - FRIDAY
  • Make sure to send a snack and a water bottle with your student each day. Please remember, NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS.
  • If you haven't sent in a change of clothes for your child, please send that in ASAP. It can be a regular polo top, but normal uniform bottoms.

We're jumping into Genesis to talk about creation for our devotions each morning the next two weeks!

Our Bible Verse for this week is: Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one." You child will need to say this orally to me on Friday.

This week in Bible we will be talking about how Jesus was at the creation of the world. As we dive into this, we'll discover some of God's attributes - that He is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, and begin to study the Trinity.

Reading/Language Arts

This week we will be reading When Charlie McButton Lost Power! We will be working on character, setting, and theme of stories as we go through this story.

We will have a spelling test on Friday. These words should be written in your child's agenda, and they also came home in your child's gray folder for this week. It is titled When Charlie McButton Lost Power and has all their spelling words, vocabulary words, amazing words, and grammar skills we are working on this week.

Here is a link to spelling city with our words for next week:

We will be working on sentences in grammar this week.

We are off to a great start with place value in math! We will continue this chapter for this week!

Our first unit is place value! We will be doing a lot of hands on learning with adding within 10,000 and making sure we have the basics of place value before we move on. This week we used place value discs and place value strips to help us see the differences in place value. We will continue using these as a tool in our 'math toolbox' as we go through the chapter.

This week we will continue to build on place value by comparing numbers, ordering numbers, and practicing using a number line for larger numbers into the thousands.

What is science? What is a scientist? What tools do they use?

We are discovering the answers to these questions and more as we walk through our first chapter in science! We will be using the scientific method to do some experiments and STEM activities coming up this week!

Social Studies

We are all about geography this week in Social Studies! We will be talking about maps and globes, reviewing our reading skill last week and using it to compare and contrast maps and globes.

We will also be identifying different items on maps and telling what they are used for!

Below is a quizlet link your child can use to review vocabulary for Social Studies.
